SP Moulding Stoholm and Juelsminde manufactures technical plastic components for a range of industries where ESG requirements and carbon footprint documentation have become increasingly important. Customers are demanding greater transparency across the value chain and data that can be used directly in their own ESG and climate reporting.

The company has strong control over its production processes. Energy consumption, material usage, and production data are systematically recorded in the ERP system as a natural part of daily operations. The challenge is not a lack of data, but rather translating operational data into consistent and documentable ESG information, particularly at product level.

From existing data to carbon footprint calculations

The collaboration is based on the data SP Moulding already collects. The ERP system is integrated with the QI platform, enabling production and material data to be used directly for carbon footprint calculations.

Data is structured according to a consistent methodology, ensuring emissions are calculated uniformly and documented at product level. As a result, carbon footprints are not based on manual estimates, but on actual operational data.

This provides a transparent data foundation that can be used for reporting, customer dialogue, and ongoing production development. When calculations are based on actual operational data rather than standard estimates, the result is a more accurate representation of emissions. Standard emission factors often cover broad ranges where average values are higher than a company’s specific, real-world performance.

ESG as a competitive advantage in customer dialogue and tenders

With documented carbon footprints for specific plastic components, SP Moulding is better positioned in discussions with customers who work systematically with sustainability reporting. The documentation makes it easier to enter partnerships where carbon footprint is a decisive parameter. It reduces uncertainty in the value chain and strengthens the company’s position in tenders and collaborations.

For SP Moulding’s customers, the carbon footprint data represents supplier-specific Scope 3 data that can be used directly in their climate accounts and as a basis for decision-making.

We support SP Moulding in making climate data operational. Carbon footprint calculations are not carried out once a year as a reporting exercise, but integrated into ongoing business development.

A more sustainable and data-driven foundation

The integration between the ERP system and the QI platform anchors climate data in daily operations. Carbon footprints are calculated on a consistent basis and can be actively used in the company’s development. At the same time, it creates stronger internal transparency. When carbon footprints are made visible, it becomes possible to identify improvement areas and prioritize initiatives where they create the greatest impact.

The collaboration demonstrates how manufacturing companies can use existing data to strengthen both competitiveness and sustainability. When ESG and carbon footprint data are integrated into daily operations, they become an active management tool rather than merely a reporting requirement.
